I am many things, and despise labels, but for these purposes, I am an educator, an activist, a homeschooling (single)mom, and creator. My life revolves around family rituals, crafting, camping, and travel. But you could say that my life, and my purpose, began eight years ago, when my son was born.
The pregnancy of my son was an emotional time, as I accepted that I would most likely be raising him as a single mother. My journey into motherhood was always intertwined with my journey into single motherhood.
I credit my sister-friends, doulas, and my midwives with an amazing birth experience and empowering me to trust my intuition as I transformed into his mother. I knew from the moment that I laid eyes on him, that my place was at home with him.
Motherhood was the first thing that I felt like I was good at. It was, and still is, my calling.
Despite criticism that (single)mothers don't have the option of staying home with their children, I have always secured positions that have allowed me to stay home while providing for my family.
Prior to motherhood, my life's work has always been helping others, whether it was in social services or teaching. My work is the same, but it has evolved. My passion lies in inspiring other mothers to detach from the struggle, to demand peace, find joy, and claim their purpose.
We can have the best intentions about the type of mother that we want to be, but if we are not getting our needs met, we cannot parent effectively. I know, first hand, how our intentions and parenting are affected when we are stressed by our environment.
We are better parents when we take care of ourselves holistically, through practices that focus on mind, body, and spirit.
Sovereign Motherhood is holistic design for all areas of our lives, homes, families, and business...nothing is separate. It's about creating inner and outer environments that are supportive and allow us to take back our power and live a life of our own design.
